After the Lawrence Bishnoi gang owned up to the murder of Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique and issued a direct threat to Salman Khan, sources close to the actor are now questioning whether there is a more sinister plot at play.
Khan, 58, has faced threats from jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi for years, ostensibly for his alleged involvement in killing two blackbucks – an animal sacred to the Bishnoi community – while shooting for a film in Rajasthan in 1998. But the attack on Siddique, who had no direct connection to the actor or his family, has raised suspicions, a source in the family told India Today.
The source said that while Bishnoi has taken credit for Siddique’s killing, they believe the latest threats against Khan could be a ploy to conceal a deeper and more elaborate conspiracy.
“Is it really that easy for someone to operate from jail?” the source said. “And why would someone attack Baba Siddique to scare Salman? It all seems very questionable.”
Khan’s loved ones are worried but trying to remain strong, according to the source. They hope the government and police will catch the real culprit at the earliest.
Siddique, who was known for his socialite image and lavish iftar parties, was reportedly close to several top Bollywood actors. His murder has stunned the film industry, where he was well-liked and respected, the source said.
“The incident has left a deep impact on everyone, personally and as residents of the city. Baba’s death was absolutely unfair, and it has scared everyone in the industry,” the source added.
Following Siddique’s death, security at Salman Khan’s Bandra residence, Galaxy Apartments, has been beefed up. More than 60 officers in plain clothes now patrol the area, alongside AI-enabled CCTV cameras with facial recognition technology to monitor suspicious activity.
Police are maintaining 24/7 vigilance around the star’s home, concerned about any potential reconnaissance by Bishnoi gang members or hired goons in the wake of the threats.
Salman Khan’s younger brother, Arbaaz Khan, earlier told India Today Digital that the family has taken all necessary precautions and is bolstered by the support of their fans.
“The love we receive gives us strength during hard times,” Arbaaz said, adding that they are confident the authorities will catch those responsible for Siddique’s death and any further threats.
